A Palmerton man has died following an early morning crash on Thursday in Heidelberg Township.

The Lehigh County coroner said John M. Schaeffer, 53, died at 2:16 a.m. Thursday in the emergency department of Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.

He was the driver of a vehicle that went off the road and struck a tree in the 4900 block of Mountain Road. The incident happened at 1:20 a.m.

State police at Fogelsville are investigating along with the coroner’s department.
