Tamaqua exhibit features apprentices’ artwork
More than four dozen pieces of art from apprentices at a Lehighton art studio will be on display at the Tamaqua Arts Center.
All are invited to see the work — and meet the artists of Davenport Studios — during a gallery opening reception at the 125 Pine St. center on Thursday.
“Works are featured from numerous students,” said Jay Davenport, who heads the studio.
Davenport has been painting professionally and teaching for almost 20 years, with a focus on realism. His oil paintings are featured in galleries across the nation and he’s received numerous awards.
At his Lehighton studio, he teaches students of all ages.
“The curriculum starts out with basic drawing skills and progresses on to oil painting, with individual instruction in a relaxed atmosphere,” Davenport said.
At the reception, attendees can expect to see drawings and paintings of various subjects. They’re rendered in charcoal, pastel and oil, he noted.
The free event runs from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Art will be displayed at the center until March 20.
