Palmerton residents are frustrated by the loud sounds of diesel pickup trucks coming from a neighboring property.
Resident Rich Kost, of the 200 block of Lafayette Avenue, told borough council on Thursday that the situation has been bothersome.
Kost said a neighbor has four diesel pickup trucks that run for long periods of time, which he believes is disturbing the peace.
“The smell’s terrible, the noise is terrible,” Kost said. “The smell comes in the house, you get sick from it.”
Don Heiney, who also resides on the 200 block of Lafayette Avenue, agreed that it’s a case of disturbing the peace.
He then urged borough council to have someone talk to the individual follow and ensure the law is followed.
However, borough police Chief Tim Kromer said that Palmerton doesn’t have a noise ordinance or an idling ordinance on the books.
As a result, Kromer said that police have to follow the disorderly conduct ordinance, which in this particular case doesn’t apply.
It was noted that a police officer did reach out to the individual.
Councilman Kris Hoffner said that since the borough doesn’t have an ordinance to address the situation, it may have to consider coming up with one at some point.
Councilman William Gallagher agreed, adding that four trucks is unreasonable.
