Kidder raises permit fee for short term rentals

Kidder Township heard pushback on raising the price for a short-term rental permit.

“It feels like a money grab,” said Karen Filoon during the public comment at the Kidder Township’s February board of supervisors meeting.

Many short-term rental owners also spoke about the fee increase to $3,000. Safety inspection fees have also increased.

Board Chair Raymond Gluck said, “We have done an extensive study of what it costs us in the community.”

It was also noted that the number of complaints to police and code enforcement officers add to the cost.

Police Chief Matthew Kuzma added that there were over 3,200 calls last year in the small township and they already had 700 calls in 2025, adding, “We have had serious crimes occurring at these rentals.”

The 2025 fee schedule was approved.

Police report

Police reported there were $236,000 in fines for trucks in the township last year, with half of that money going to the township.

An officer inspects trucks one time a week to ensure they are compliant and safe.

There were 347 police calls in January and 233 citations were handed out.

A local business donated a computer so now there are five computers. A license plate reader will be up and running next week.
