Tamaqua sets pool season dates

Tamaqua Borough Council set the opening and closing dates for the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool at Bungalow Park.

Council made other actions related to the pool during Thursday’s meeting, which was rescheduled from Feb. 18.

The pool will open on May 31 and close on Aug. 17, council decided. Both dates are contingent upon the schedule of the Tamaqua Area School District, the availability of lifeguards and the pool construction schedule.

Council voted in favor of maintaining the hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with times subject to change based on weather, number of patrons and lifeguard availability.

Beth Jones will return as pool manager, and will receive a rate of $17.50 per hour.

Council will advertise for an assistant pool manager, who will be paid $15 per hour, and a head lifeguard, who will receive $12 per hour. The head lifeguard’s rate will increase by $1 an hour if they are acting as pool manager.

The borough is also seeking lifeguards and pool clerks at pay rates of $10 and $9 per hour respectively. They will receive an addition of 25 cents per hour for each year of service.

Council voted to advertise for a concession stand vendor, and will keep the season and daily pool rate schedule the same as it was in 2024, Councilwoman Mary Linkevich said.

For Tamaqua Area School District residents, season pool passes will be $15 per person. The discounted rates have been made possible through a donation from the John E. Morgan Foundation.
