Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Feb. 20 with 21 members present. The invocation was read by a member.
President Jean Machamer gave each member Valentine chocolate candy. One guest was welcomed.
Four members celebrated birthdays this month, and a moment of silence was held for a member.
Members can pay dues for the year beginning next month. The election of officers will be held the first week in April.
On St. Patrick’s Day, pizza from DiMaggio’s will be served. Meals will begin in April. The meeting closed and bingo was played.
The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.
St. John fundraiser
St. John Lutheran Church, Tamaqua, will have a fundraising event on Tuesday at Gimbels Restaurant, 123 E. Broad St, Tamaqua.
A percentage from the proceeds of sales between 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. will be donated to St. John’s upgrading of the kitchen.
Calvary Lewistown
Pastor Kim Leskovich will share the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the world during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lewistown. Music will be featured. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:15 a.m. All are welcome.
At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Pastor Kim will bring the scripture and devotion to start her series, “Lent in Plain Sight: Devotion through Simple Objects” with this week’s object of dust. There will be music.
There will be no Wednesday evening prayer group throughout the weeks of Lent. Lenten services are offered by the New Ringgold Ministerium on March 5 at Christ Church in McKeansburg.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. “The Chosen” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday in the social Hall.
Rush-Ryan-Delano Seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens met on Feb. 25 with 36 members present.
President Robert Neifert opened the meeting with the invocation, “Morning Prayer,” followed by the Lord’s Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “God Bless America.”
Edit Varano celebrated her 100th birthday last week. One more birthday was celebrated by a member in February.
A member gave each member a plastic heart filled with chocolate heart candy.
Lottery tickets were chanced off and won by a member.
Another member warned the group about a scam going on in Hazleton.
Refreshments were served. The meeting closed and bingo was played. The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. March 11 at Christ Church.
Luncheon
A “Putting on the Green” luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 18 at Faith United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven.
Speaker Nancy O’Meara of Odenton, Maryland, will speak about “Bloom Where You are Planted.”
Nancy Leichleitner of Pottsville will talk about her quilting hobby and special music will be provided by Rick Fries of Orwigsburg.
