February 25, 1955 — Marian takes over first place in the Anthracite Catholic League as the Colts use a big third quarter to help gain a 76-55 victory over St. Stephen’s of Port Carbon. The winners, coached by Hugh “Wink” Gallagher, hold a seven-point halftime advantage but outscore their opponent by a 27-13 margin in the third frame to take a commanding lead. Marian places four players in double figures, led by Tommy Eroh’s 18 points. Jay Gallagher contributes 14 points to the Colts’ cause, while Ted Fritz and Bob Gruber both finish with 13.
