Penn Forest Fire Company hosts soup fundraiser

If you see a chicken dancing around Jim Thorpe that would be Penn Forest Fire Company #1’s Fire Police Pat Rodgers.

While wearing the costume Rodgers posted that he would dance in Jim Thorpe if the 120 quarts of soup sell out from Saturday’s soup sale.

Residents could keep warm and support their local fire company at the drive-through soup sale. Classic favorite chicken noodle soup was available along with pasta fagioli, pasta fagioli with sausage, ham and bean and gluten free vegetable soup.

Members of the social committee made the soups the day before, working from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Madeline Ligenza noted she helped with the preparation “to support our community.”

Sold in quart sizes for $10 the first soup sold out was the pasta fagioli with sausage. Jon Treers, from Brooklyn, staying at his vacation home, chose the ham and bean as he was “looking forward to some delicious soup.”

The third annual Fire Company fundraiser was “oddly slow” but sales were steady. Fire Police and volunteer Jerry Dotter stated, “Any fundraiser is all about supporting the fire company. Presently, we need equipment, 10 sets of gear. The cost for one set is $4,500.”

You can continue to support the fire company by attending their monthly breakfast, the second Sunday of the month from 8 a.m. to noon and upcoming yard sales and take out chicken dinners.
