The Palmerton Area School Board’s authorization of a high school assistant principal internship resulted in fifth grade teacher James Tkach assuming the post while continuing his teaching duties.

Palmerton has not had an assistant principal in over three years and Tkach will now provide assistance to high school principal George Duell for the next six months.

His responsibilities will be primarily pupil-centered, assisting with day-to-day projects, club activities, coordinating field trips and working with students in general.

Tkach is studying educational administration with a concentration on secondary education at Lehigh University and part of his training requires an internship in an administrative position.
