Jerusalem UCC hosts annual chili, dessert competition

It was a day of fun, fellowship, and friendly competition at Jerusalem Trachsville United Church of Christ Saturday.

The church held its chili and dessert contest, an annual event that draws cooks and bakers from around the area.

Rachel Borger, a member of the church, is the coordinator of the contest.

“We’re very excited,” she exclaimed. “It’s kind of a pretty big competition. It’s something we do for fun every year.”

There was no entry fee for cooks, bakers, or the public. However, the church did accept donations.

“It’s not a competition to win big prizes; it’s just to hold the title of best chili cooker and best baker,” Borger explained.

The public voted on their favorite chili. There were nine entries. Some were mild, some had bit of heat. Some had ground beef, some had shredded. There was also a white chili entry.

They also voted on their favorite desserts. There were nine entries, including a cherry cheesecake dessert, chocolate chip cookies, apple scones, strawberries on a cloud, and more.

The winner of the best chili award was Andy Krock, and the Best Baker was Denise Goodhile, both of the Trachsville area.
