State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Four passengers in one of two vehicles involved in a crash at 12:07 p.m. Jan. 12 at the intersection of Claremont Avenue (Route 309) and Fairview Street in Hometown, Rush Township, were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton, by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association and the McAdoo Fire Company Ambulance Association.
They are Maria Vargas-Dematia, 28, Eladia Pena-Payano, 75, and two girls, ages 8 and 10, all from Paterson, New Jersey.
Police said they were passengers in a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by Francis J. Matias-Morillo, 30, also of Paterson. He was uninjured in the incident, as was the other driver, Jonathan T. Honicker, 28, of Tamaqua.
The crash occurred as Matias-Morillo was southbound on Claremont Avenue when his vehicle crossed over the travel lanes in a sudden movement and was positioned ahead of a 2014 Subaru Legacy driven by Honicker, police said.
They said the vehicle driven by Matias-Morillo came to a sudden stop, which caused Honicker’s car to strike it. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Police said Matias-Morillo was cited after the crash.
• Goodson S. Gomonda, 62, of Brockton, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:43 p.m. Feb. 15 on Moss Glen Road in Schuylkill Township.
Police said he was driving a 2017 Subaru Forester south when it left the road and hit a tree.
• Police investigated a hit-and-run crash at 3:08 p.m. Feb. 17 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
They said an unknown vehicle attempted to change lanes while traveling north and struck a 2025 Toyota Highlander operated by Diane S. Williams, 83, of Red Hook, New York, before continuing northbound.
Williams was able to pull off the road onto a safe location at a nearby exit ramp. Police said she was uninjured. Her vehicle sustained rear passenger side fender damage.
