February is National Career and Technical Education Month, and the Schuylkill Technology Center is highlighting expansion.
The center ushered in the New Year with the launch of two new career and technical programs.
The North Campus welcomed the first group of high school students into the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Program.
The highly competitive program, which prepares students to install and repair heating and air conditioning systems, will ultimately provide highly skilled training to 40 high school students per year. Students enrolled in HVAC earn industry recognized credentials.
The center also welcomed new students into the Food Service Occupation Program at its South Annex Building. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in the food service industry within a hands-on learning environment while providing additional support to assist students with their individual needs. Students in the program earn the Serve Safe Certification.
“Career and Technical Education has undergone a transformation in recent years that truly helps students see the relevance of what they are learning with practical applications of knowledge and skills,” said Shannon Brennan, center director.
