Panther Valley names dean of students

The Panther Valley School Board selected a dean of students and hired two teachers among personnel actions Wednesday.

The board selected teacher Richard Evanko as the dean of students, a position that was created in December to handle discipline and school safety.

The dean of students is not an administrative position, and the board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Panther Valley Education Association regarding the position.

The dean of students will be paid an additional $5,000 a year, and will not be expected to commit more than 40 additional hours of service in the year, which will be served in the summer academic recess.

Among the hires were Matthew Neifert, fifth grade social studies teacher, and Michaela Susko, elementary special education teacher, both at a rate of $45,003, per the union contract.

In other personnel moves, the board:

• Hired Jo Ann Petosa as an elementary school lunch monitor, effective Jan. 28, at a rate of $12.50 an hour.

• Approved a three-credit course for Evanko at a Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 at cost of $325 a credit.

• Approved Casey Hedash and Ben Turrano as Panther Valley security for the 2024-25 school year at $30 an event.

• Approved the list of spring sports workers for 2024-25 at $30 an event.

• Approved Tara Yurichek as mentor to new teacher Matthew Neifert. She was also transferred from fifth grade social studies to six grade social studies.

• Approved unpaid medical leave for two employees.
