Palmerton woman offers permanent makeup services

Kelly Jordan is a permanent makeup and microblading technician with 30 years of experience.

As the sole proprietor of Permanently You By Kelly, she brings microneedling and medical grade skin care to Palmerton.

Located at 855 E. Princeton Ave., her business is dedicated to providing high-quality permanent makeup services that enhance her clients’ natural beauty and boost their confidence.

Jordan has worked from medical facilities and spas in Harrisburg, Stroudsburg, Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton.

Several years ago, the Palmerton Area High School graduate decided to set up her business, specializing in permanent eyebrows, brush and shading, eyeliner, lash enhancement, lip liner, lip fill-in, beauty marks and camo.

Advancements

Jordan said her business has grown to include microblading and radio frequency microneedling.

Radio frequency microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a needle cartridge or 24 gold plated fine needles that produce heat energy that punctures the skin.

Jordan said the process stimulates the body’s natural wound healing response promoting collagen and elastin production; improves skin texture; smooths scars; fades sunspots and hyperpigmentation; and also helps with stretch marks; spider veins; and stimulates new hair growth.

“I use hyaluronic acid with a fan brush and paint it on the area, mainly the face,” Jordan said. “I then determine the depth of the needle settings based on the client and area. Less depth would be used on bony areas such as the nose, forehead, etc., while a deeper depth would be use on the cheeks, neck and leg veins. I then use a cold hammer, which is an instrument that is hand-held with a metal plate to go over the treated area in order to lock in the moisture and reduce redness. This helps for minimal down time.

“The client appears to have a mild sunburn following the procedure which is usually gone within 48 hours. A package of three treatments is advised six weeks apart for best results. My clients are given a moisturizer to take home I order to hydrate their skin.”

Jordan noted that RF Microneedling provides the same outcome as lasers do, but is safer and more affordable. She added a laser is not good for all skin types and can result in a permanent burn, while this procedure cannot.

Microblading, she said, is a semi-permanent eyebrow procedure that’s similar to permanent makeup. PM uses a round shader needle while Microblading uses tiny needles that are shaped on an angle in order to create a brush stroke appearance, Jordan said.

“I use a medical grade numbing agent and apply it to the clients eyebrow area while they complete their consent forms,” she said.

She determined the client’s skin type to choose the best pigment color for them.

“I then lay them flat and use mapping tools to create a template. Once the client looks in the mirror and approves the shape and the color has been chosen I begin the procedure. I choose the blade size based on the clients age, skin and other factors as everyone’s skin is extremely unique. I then use the microblading pen to create fine strokes throughout the templated brow, gently wipe off the excess ink and reapply numbing agent for five minutes, then continue to add strokes or darken them until they are completely filled in.”

Jordan said she was certified to perform micropigmentation at The Beau Institute in New Jersey.

Micropigmentation is the process of depositing pigment into the dermal layer of the skin with a needle.

“Both permanent makeup and microblading are basically the same thing as far as the depth, pigments used as well as last the same amount of time before maintenance is needed to freshen the color,” she said. “The difference is that microblading is a bit more painful due to the extremely fine needles used in comparison to the solid brow.”

Jordan explained she also takes online mini classes to keep up with any new trends and techniques.

“I determine which technique to use on my clients based on their individual skin types, age, amount of eyebrow hair they have, the thickness of their skin and most importantly their skin undertones,” she said. “This is the same for lip and eyeliner procedures.

“When is comes to the brows, I generally map them out in order to make them symmetrical and remove unwanted hair by waxing or tweezing below the brow bone. Eyebrows should always be on the brow bone. The arch is determined based on how much hair the client has and how much of an arch they want as well as their unique face shape.”

Helping the client

Jordan said clients come to her for permanent makeup and microblading so they can wake up in the morning with makeup on, and that as women age, they begin to lose their eyebrow hair and conditions such as alopecia and thyroid disease. She also has a few male clients as well for the same reasons.

“Woman spend a great deal of time drawing on eyebrows every day,” Jordan said. “They are often embarrassed to go swimming, afraid of sweating in the summer and smudging them in addition to those who need glasses and can’t see to draw the on themselves.

“This explains why they eyebrows are my most popular procedure. Waking up with eyeliner makes you look less tired, and is also a time saver as well as having a soft lipstick that never wipes off even when out for dinner.

Jordan said that her clients are a variety of ages. There are women who are older and can’t see well to apply makeup, people who live busy lives, those who are not good with applying makeup and women who eyebrow hair due to chemotherapy.

Microneedling clients often have skin conditions they would like to see corrected such as sun damage, and it compares to a laser which is far more expensive and is great for all skin types, unlike a laser that can burn someone easily.

Jordan, who also does piercings (nose, earlobes) and sells products from KJCosmetics Medical Grade Skin care, said most of her customers are within the Lehigh Valley.

“Many say the studio is very comforting,” she said. “They are so much at ease.”

Jordan takes appointments only. Consults are free.

“I like what I do,” she said. “I do have quality clients.”
