Monroe offices presents hazard plan

The Monroe County Office of Emergency Management and the Monroe County Planning Commissions invites the public to discuss the draft 2025 Monroe County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at Northampton Community College - Pocono Campus at 2411 PA-715, Tannersville.

In November 2023, Monroe County began the process of updating the Monroe County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, by obtaining FEMA Post-Disaster Mitigation funding in the amount of $157,000. Through this funding, the county has contracted MCM Consulting Group Inc. to produce an update to the current 2021 Monroe County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Each County and Municipality is required under the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 to have a current and adopted Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to receive federal disaster funding during or after a presidentially declared disaster.

A planning group comprised of the Office of Emergency Management, the County Planning Commission, municipal representatives, critical infrastructure representatives, and other agencies have identified twenty-five hazards that could occur within the County.

The planning group has reviewed, updated, and added to the list of mitigation measures intended to eliminate or reduce the negative impact of those hazards.
