Commonwealth Charter Academy passes 23-24 audit

Commonwealth Charter Academy, a kindergarten through 12 public cyber charter school serving more than 33,000 Pennsylvania students announces that it has received a clean independent audit for the 2023-24 school year.

This audit, as mandated by section 218 of the Public School Code, was conducted by a highly reputable, qualified, independent, certified public accounting firm, and revealed no exceptions, findings, or deficiencies with internal controls.

CCA President and CEO Thomas D. Longenecker said, “Our Business Office, staffed by skilled and dedicated professionals, consistently achieves clean audits, demonstrating our commitment to responsible management and use of public, taxpayer funds.”

In addition to routine auditing practices, the audit also included the following, in compliance with Act 55 of 2024:

• An enrollment test;

• Sampling of trustee and administrator expense reimbursements;

• Review of internal controls, including receipts and disbursements;

• Review of annual federal and state tax filings, including IRS Form 990;

• Review of the financial statements and tax returns of any charter school foundation;

• Review of the selection and acceptance process of contracts publicly bid; and

• Review of certain board policies and procedures.
