A Walnutport borough official is concerned with the condition of an icy playground on borough property.
Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker shared her concerns with the status of the parking lot.
However, road foreman Michael Wentz said they don’t plow the playground parking lot, and haven’t for years.
But, Hunsicker said she believes it’s a safety hazard.
“I’m concerned because it was one sheet of ice,” Hunsicker said. “I want accessible areas, that’s an open area right near to us.”
Borough road foreman Michael Wentz said that the then council years ago said they didn’t want the road crew to plow the playground parking lot due to their belief that it was a waste of the road crew’s time, salt and materials.
“Council (for many years) did not want us to plow the playground (parking lot),” Wentz said. “I was (previously) told by council not to do it.”
Wentz said he was fine with doing it, as it would take less than an hour to do.
The consensus of council was to have the playground parking lot plowed.
Line painting
Also on Thursday, Hunsicker asked if there was a pay to paint yellow lines on Washington Street.
It was then mentioned about realigning the road with lines to give it more room, as the centerline of the concrete is realistically not the centerline of the road because of where cars park.
Sgt. Jason Nothstein, officer in charge, suggested they go to the borough line.
Wentz said he would get a price to see what it would cost to put yellow lines from the borough line to Main Street to past Third Avenue.
