JT Winterfest begins with luminary walk

The annual Jim Thorpe Winterfest begins tonight with the Luminary Walk from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Luminary Walk is an opportunity to walk around downtown with a loved one and enjoy the magic of Jim Thorpe where the streets are lined with luminaries.

The Mauch Chunk Opera House will be rocking tonight with 33 1/3 LIVE’s Killer Queen Experience and on Saturday with the ELO Tribute Show.

At Penn’s Peak, Atmosphere — Imagine the Fun Tour is on stage tonight and Mountain — Celebrating the Genius of Neil Young is rocking the stage on Saturday night.

On Saturday and Sunday, enjoy the ice carvings outside many of the businesses, enjoy the music outside the train station, take a ride on the Jim Thorpe Trolley (weather permitting), and enjoy some time at one of the local pubs and restaurants.

Take a carriage ride through downtown and soak in the beauty of the Victorian architecture.

Note, no advance reservations are being taken as the carriage rides are dependent on the weather.

And don’t forget about the annual Winterfest Mug Walk. Purchase a mug and get a commemorative bag from the Jim Thorpe Olive Oil Company to help carry your treasure.

The Family Warming Station at the Mauch Chunk Museum and Ballroom at 41 West Broadway. Grab a snack and check out the vendors.

The main parking area is the Carbon County Municipal Parking lot, located at 1 Susquehanna St., just north of the train station. The cost is $25 per day, open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Street parking is also available in the immediate downtown. Pay at the kiosks or via the Flowbird app.

Parking is also available at the County Parking Lot at 41 Susquehanna St., just south of the train station.

Additional parking will be provided by Immaculate Conception Parish at 163 West Broadway on Saturday and Sunday. Scan the QR code and pay via credit card.

Do not park on West Broadway posted with red permit signs as this is residential permit parking only and will receive a $75 ticket.
