A Mahoning Township official is irked by what she claims to be the police department’s refusal to shovel its own snow.
Supervisor Deb McGowan aired her frustrations with the police department at Wednesday’s board of supervisors meeting.
“I’m totally flabbergasted our police department cannot and will not go out and shovel their cars,” McGowan said. “I think it’s ridiculous, and I think something has to be done.”
Supervisor Myron “Zeke” Blahy concurred with McGowan’s sentiment.
“I agree,” Blahy said. “We don’t have the manpower.”
McGowan continued to voice her displeasure over the situation.
“I agree with you,” Blahy said. “I think they should be responsible.”
McGowan said she’s fed up with the situation.
“I’m tired of it,” she said. “They want to be cops, they want to be big shots, let them get their (expletive) out.”
Afterward, supervisors agreed to send a letter to the police department stating they are responsible for shoveling their own parking lot.
While the police department came under scrutiny for its lack of snow removal, the township’s road crew was commended for its actions.
Supervisor Ron Wenrich complimented the road crew for its diligence in treating the roadways during wintry conditions.
“Kudos to them,” Wenrich said. “They’re out before (the bad weather) even hit.”
Blahy echoed Wenrich’s statement.
“Job well done,” Blahy said.
