Carbon Co. lowers dog adoption fee for February
Are you looking for a new man’s best friend? Why not check out the Carbon County Animal Shelter.
During the county commissioners’ meeting last week, the board reminded residents that February is “Love a Dog for Life” month in the hopes of finding more dogs in the shelter forever homes. The county animal shelter is at 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, on top of the Broad Mountain off Route 93.
To celebrate the month, the adoption fee is decreased from $100 to $50.
Carbon County began naming February as a special month at the shelter in 2014 and it helped increase the number of adoptions in previous years.
The number of dogs under the shelter’s care can fluctuate quickly so it is advised to check back with the shelter during the month.
For more information on the shelter or to adopt a dog, visit the shelter between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, or check the facility out on Facebook at Carbon County Animal Shelter PA.
The staff asks that you call ahead at 570-325-4828 to make sure someone is available since sometimes they are called out for a rescue.
In other shelter matters, commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko released the animal shelter advisory commission’s 2024 project report.
It includes creating a shed for meet and greets, installing new kennel doors, completion of a memorial bridge and garden, upgrading the HVAC system and getting referrals for trainers and rescues to help with various dogs.
Several of the projects were completed through donations from the community.
In addition, from December 2023 through November 2024, a total of 59 dogs were adopted, 86 dogs were rehomed through shelter staff’s help without having to come to the shelter, and 74 lost dogs were reunited with their owners.
