The Monroe County commissioners selected a contractor for the paving of the parking lot on Sixth Street next to the parking deck during their regular meeting last week.

Northeast Site Contractors Inc. in East Stroudsburg was awarded the contract. The company bid $76,735.50.

“That includes the base bid and the alternate bid,” said Commissioner John Christy.

Also bidding on the project were: JNS Paving and Excavating Corp., $ 96,625; Gaver Industries Inc. doing business as Barker & Barker Paving, $99,325; Kobalt Construction Inc., $106,675; Pioneer Construction Co. Inc., $120,518; H&K Group Inc., $160,251.73, and Traffic Regulators, $171,825.

In July, the commissioners awarded a contract for repairs and maintenance of the parking garage to South Shore Construction LLC for $513,090.

Christy had said in an interview in July that the Helix was in need of immediate repairs.

“We have spalling concrete in areas,” he said.

Spalling occurs when fragments — in this case concrete — fall off a larger structure due to cracking below the surface.

The garage is located near the Monroe County Courthouse on North Sixth Street between Main and Sarah streets.

Work on the parking garage was slated for the fall 2024.
