Weatherly holds 32nd annual Hall of Fame induction

A former basketball coach and a championship softball team were inducted into the Weatherly High School Sports Hall of Fame last Saturday.

The 32nd annual Hall of Fame induction was held at intermission between the boys and girls varsity basketball games between Weatherly and Salem Christian School, with the Wreckers winning both contests.

The first inductee was Ray Provizzi, a 1989 graduate of WHS who played basketball and baseball.

He was captain of the basketball team in his senior year and led his team in both rebounds and assists.

Provizzi went to Penn State University and earned a B.S. degree in ceramic engineering.

Upon returning to Weatherly, he and his friend Corey Gerhart coached junior high boys basketball, leading the team to a 15-1 record.

He coached the junior high team for four years.

He passed away on May 5, 2023.

Accepting the honor on his behalf were his sister, Susan Kotanski, and brother, James Provizzi.

The 1998 softball team, which won a Schuylkill League Softball Division 2 Championship, was also inducted.

The team was coached by Margaret Brown and her assistant, Leann Adamcdzyk Sites.

Both Brown and Sites were present for the induction, as were team members Amanda Zacharias, Kayla Romig Durham, Laine Richie Medina, Deana Petrone vonFrisch, Susan Provizzi Kotansky, Angela Petrone Gregory, Tiffany Labanoski Tom, Sarah Koneschusky Minnick, Dianna Barna and Joyce Englehart Chobert.

Team members Kristin Barna, Kristy Gower, Katie Jones, Genessa Kellerman Lowry, Danielle Makowiec, Megan Mrozinski and Becky Richie Zelke were also on the team.

Each of the Hall of Fame members were escorted into the gymnasium by members of the Weatherly High School cheerleading squad.
