Area players named to LV All-Star Classic

A number of are basketball players were recently selected to play in the 50th annual Lehigh Valley Senior All-Star Classic on March 30 at Northampton Community College.

In addition to the all-star games, the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame will induct its newest members.

The event raises funds for Via of the Lehigh Valley’s programs for adults and children with disabilities.

Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Pleasant Valley are part of the West squads — along with Catasauqua, Northampton, Parkland, Whitehall and Lehigh Valley Academy — while Palmerton has been included on the North teams. Other North schools are Bangor, ES North, ES South, Notre Dame-ES, PM East, PM West, Stroudsburg, Pen Argyl and Lehigh Christian Academy.

Blue Bomber players named to the girls squad include Mikayla Pengelly and Ella Baumgardt, with Corey Serfass making the boys roster.

Area players on the West girls team include Northwestern’s Brook Balliet and Cara Thomas, Northern Lehigh’s Katelynn Barthold and Dekota Barthold, Lehighton’s Timara Klotz and Pleasant Valley’s Alexia Polazzo.

Boys players selected to compete for the West squad are Northwestern’s Eli Zimmerman, Gavin Nelson and Shane Marth, Pleasant Valley’s Zach Prator and JJ Moore, Lehighton’s Joe Roth, Northern Lehigh’s Connor Simms, and Jim Thorpe’s Aaron Curran.

The North girls will open up play against the South at 10 a.m., while the West will face the East at 11:45 a.m. In between games there will be a 3-point shooting contest.

The boys will take the court at 2 p.m. with the North meeting the South. The West takes on the East at 3:45 p.m. In between those games will also be a 3-point shooting contest, as well as a dunk contest.

Those being inducted into the Hall of Fame include Kara Bonenberger Elderkin (Northampton, 2007-11), Kalista Walters (Bethlehem Catholic, 2011-15) and the Central Catholic girls state championship teams from 2001 and 2002.
