Area fans flaunting their colors for the home team
Jody and Lisa Price of West Penn Township are longtime fans.
Lisa said she owed the allegiance to Jody.
“My husband has been an Eagles fan for at least 60 years,” she said. “I met him in 1977 when we first started dating in high school and I immediately became a fan then.”
She has been a fan for 48 years now.
“My Uncle, Bob Drigan from Nesquehoning, played football at the University of Penn with Chuck Bednarik, who later went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. We cheer them on every game.
“When they won the Supe Bowl in 2018, we went to the parade in Philly. It was so much fun celebrating with the fans and team.”
They didn’t stop there. The following year, they went to Nashville to see them play the Tennessee Titans. In 2023, they met Jason Kelce in Sea Isle City (New Jersey) when they attended his fundraiser for the Eagles Autism Foundation.
“This year, we decided to go to New Orleans to see them play at the Superdome in September never envisioning that they would make it back to the Superdome to play in the Super Bowl. We feel that they are destined to win the Super Bowl this year.” Lisa said. “They have the talent to win the game and they are definitely better than the Chiefs. It’s our time to win the Super Bowl again.”
Food and football
Caitlin Moyer, owner of Cindy’s Deli, is a superfan, and if you come to her house you’d better be, too.
“On game day, Eagles attire is a must. Whether it be black, midnight green, white, or my personal favorite, Kelly green. I like to match the colors the team is wearing that day,” she said.
And the attire cannot be new on game day. “For example, if I got a new jersey, it can only be worn AFTER wearing it during a victory during the regular season. I have a lot of merchandise that hadn’t seen kickoff until midseason,” she said.
If she’s hosting a watch party, she tries to re-create the seating arrangement from the previous game.
“So, if you’re coming to my house, pick a good seat, cause it’s yours for a while,” Moyer said. “I will make you leave the room, move your drink, or change seats if I feel like the vibe is off. We must keep a winning energy alive for four quarters.”
As the owner of the deli, the grub needs to be just right.
“I try to make one special ‘Philly’ themed snack for the game. If we win, and there are leftovers, they are coming back out next week. I have an Eagle-shaped cheese ball in my fridge from the wild-card game to this day. No one dares take a scoop of Swoop.”
She also has Eagle head cookies from the second game of the playoffs.
And, know there will be plenty of singing.
“If you come over, you also better brush up on the Eagles’ victory song, because we are singing it all night long. Go Birds!” Moyer said.
