State police at Bethlehem - crashes

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported the following crashes:

• Tyson K. Harris, 19, of Snellville, Georgia, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash at 7:11 p.m. Jan. 16 on Route 145 in North Whitehall Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima too fast for conditions when he lost control of it, crashing the car as it rolled over. The car was towed from the scene.

They said Harris exhibited signs of impairment and admitted to having smoked marijuana, while also being found in possession of a controlled substance.

He was also cited for operating a vehicle that had a suspended registration.

• Police said the driver of a vehicle that struck a 2018 Subaru Outback operated by Dodi L. Handwerk, 54, of Slatington, failed to stop after the incident at 4:37 p.m. Jan. 28 on the Route 22 Schoenersville exit ramp in Hanover Township.

Police said she stopped at the top of the ramp due to a backlog of traffic when the striking vehicle, directly behind the Subaru, left the roadway and hit the driver’s side rear bumper of Handwerk’s vehicle before fleeing.

• A 17-year-old boy from Catasauqua was cited for careless driving after he struck three vehicles while operating a motorcycle at 4:42 p.m. Jan. 27 on Route 22 in Hanover Township.

Police said he was operating a 2004 Suzuki while “lane splitting,” after which the cycle sideswiped a 2007 Ford Focus driven by James Arata, 58, of New Tripoli, and a 2024 Mercedes-Benz operated by Daniel E. Taglioli, 41, of Allentown, before rear-ending a 2020 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Oleksandr Okhrimenko, 31, of Wheeling, Illinois.

Police said the motorcyclist sustained moderate injuries and was transported by personnel from the Northampton Regional Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus.

The other three drivers were not hurt, but police said a 10-year-old boy from Allentown who was a passenger in the Mercedes had unknown injuries but refused a medical transport from the scene. Another boy, age 8, also from Allentown and who was also in the Mercedes, was uninjured.

• A 16-year-old boy from Danielsville had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 11:57 a.m. Jan. 17 on Locust Road, East Allen Township.

Police said he refused a medical transport from the scene.

They said he was driving a 2015 Honda eastbound when it was rear-ended by a 2004 Jeep Liberty operated by a 16-year-old girl, also from Danielsville, after two vehicles that were doing “doughnuts” in a field abruptly reentered the roadway, cutting off the line of traffic.

Police said both vehicles had minor damage.

The girl was cited for following too closely, police said.

• Edsony Rivera, 45, of Walnutport, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:27 a.m. Jan. 22 on Mountain Road in Washington Township.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Buick Enclave westbound when he encountered a backlog of traffic. In an attempt to avoid striking the vehicle in front of his, Rivera veered off the road and struck a tree. The Buick was towed from the scene.

Police said Rivera was cited after the crash.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:12 a.m. Jan. 14 on Airport Road in East Allen Township.

Police said the crash occurred when a 2015 Dodge Ram truck operated by Thomas L. Dahl, 57, of Lansford, traveling south, attempted to turn left onto Hanoverville Road as a 2007 Ford Explorer driven by Michael C. Frace, 52, of Whitehall, was proceeding through the intersection. The Ram struck the front bumper of the Explorer, police said.

The Ram had minor damage to its front bumper, while the Explorer had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

Police said Dahl was cited after the crash.
