Former Nesquehoning mayor Walck dies

A former Nesquehoning mayor has passed away.

Kenneth “Tony” Walck died Monday in Coaldale. He was the husband of Rose (Sniscak) Walck.

Tony, as many knew him, served as the borough mayor from 2003 through 2013.

During that time, he was active in many community groups and events, including helping to start a junior recreation commission and crime watch group.

He also served as the borough’s Community Emergency Response Team coordinator, was part of the Carbon County Animal Response Team and Nesquehoning Lions Club and volunteered as a fire police officer and crossing guard at the Panther Valley Elementary School.

“Former Mayor Tony Walck was a dedicated servant for the citizens of the borough of Nesquehoning and always had a special dedication for the Nesquehoning Hose Co. #1,” said John McArdle, hose company fire chief and borough Emergency Management coordinator.

He also supported the borough fire companies, American Cancer Society Telethon and Panther Valley’s Harmony Scholars, where he was the lighting director for the performance.

In addition to community service, he was an electrician and was employed at Air Products as a chemical plant operator, serving as union president from 1994 until he retired in 2022.
