Recent periods of snow, ice and bitter cold took its toll on the recently-constructed Lehighton Area High School as its roof leaked and a shower head burst, damaging 30 rooms in the new building.
Water damages also occurred in all six buildings in the district.
Joseph Hauser, director of buildings and maintenance for the district, reported affected by the leaks and broken sprinkler were the kitchen office, cafeteria, service area, faculty work room auditorium, gymnasium and custodian’s room.
In addition, a TV room closet and 22 classrooms sustained damages.
A meting with school officials, building contractors and the architect of the new school was held to discuss who is responsible for the damages, but no conclusion had been reached, Hauser said.
