Buy a dog license or face a fine

Now that February is here, it is important for Carbon County dog owners who have not yet purchased a license for their furry friend to do so.

Dog licenses are still available with the county treasurer’s office.

Owners who are found to not have licensed their dog face a fine ranging from $100 to $500, plus court costs, Kevin Zelienka, county treasurer, said.

Annual licenses cost $8.70 for regular licenses and $6.70 for owners who are disabled or are senior citizens.

Lifetime licenses are also available at a cost of $52.70 for regular licenses and $36.70 for owners who are disabled and senior citizens.

Zelienka said that the application for both types of license are available on the county website at www.carboncountypa.gov in the document hub.

He reminds residents that lifetime applications are a two-part form, with a verification form that needs to be signed by a veterinarian that includes the dog’s microchip number.

Residents can fill out the application on the website and print it out. They can then bring in the forms to the county treasurer’s office or one of the dog agents who also sell annual licenses.

Zelienka noted that if you are purchasing a lifetime license, you must come to the treasurer’s office.
