Legion meeting
Post 927 of the American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
W. Pocono Women’s Club
The Western Pocono Women’s Club leadership for 2025 includes: Isabel Pietri, president; Linda Troia, first vice president; Vicki Connor, second vice president; Cathy Bruno, secretary, and Sue Schupp, treasurer.
The first formal meeting of the club will be March 17, a Welcome Back affair.
AL Riders to meet
Members of the American Legion Riders Chapter of the American Legion Post 927 are slated to meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Sunday supper
The next Community Sunday Supper hosted by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Super Bowl Sunday
St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, Kunkletown, started taking soup donations this past Sunday and will be accepting donations of soup for the West End Food Pantry and the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.
Folks are also invited to put cash into the pots on the table in the Gathering Room to indicate their respective hope for the winner of the game.
Rebate program
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is still open.
As of Jan. 21, homeowners, renters and some residents of personal care/nursing homes may be eligible for a rebate of up to $1,000 on their paid taxes or rent.
Applicants must be 65 or older, widows/widowers, 50 or older, or 18 or older with a disability. The money issued is based on the applicant’s annual income, which must have been $45,000 or less in 2024.

Food pantry open
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is slated to be open from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.
The pantry is asking for donations of canned vegetables for February.
Ross museum open
The Ross Township Historical Society invites residents to its museum from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
The museum is located next to the township building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. Touring the museum and speaking to the volunteers offers an introduction to Ross Township of yesteryear to the township’s newer residents, while making connections between yesterday and today with residents who have lived here for many years.
The museum offers an educational experience for youth and supervised children
The society is accepting donations, both monetary and artifacts that are directly related to life as it was 60-plus years ago, and in keeping with the following areas: farm and family; agriculture; government; business and industry; faith; and education.

Eagles watch trip
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center did schedule another Eagle Watch field trip, to be held Friday. It will be a field trip to the upper Delaware River in search of the bald eagle.

Adoration help
Our Lady Queen of Peace is asking its parishioners to help staff the 24-hour adoration this coming Friday and Saturday. Anyone able to help for an hour can call the secretary at 570-899-5521.
Freezin’ fundraiser
A fundraiser for Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, dubbed Freezin’ for a Reason, is being held at Camelback from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, with entertainment lasting to 5 p.m. A live band will then perform inside the Thirsty Camel.

Senior center event
Chestnuthill Senior Center, at Zion Lutheran Church, will be hosting a Valentine’s Day event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Valentine’s Day. There will be a crowning of a King and Queen, entertainment by The Lost Ramblers band, and lunch.

The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady Queen of Peace are hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner dance at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15.

Free help
February is Low Vision Awareness Month so Sights for Hope, a United Way agency in Stroudsburg serving Monroe County’s visually impaired and blind individuals by providing free social services — including escorted transportation for essential needs and assistance with chores like writing checks, reading correspondence, and labeling and organizing household items.
It is offered by the Rotary Foundation of the Greater Poconos and provides free income tax preparation to Monroe and Pike counties.

Concert of Prayer
St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown Prayer Team is sponsoring an evening service at 7 p.m. Feb. 20, which will include “fellowship, praise, worship, testimonies and targeted prayer,” in order to come together “to pray for the future” of the church.
Tax assistance
The Rotary Foundation of the Greater Poconos will operate this year’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (Rotary-GP VITA), providing free income tax return preparation to Monroe and Pike County residents. The program assists individuals earning up to $70,000 per year.
Volunteers are certified by the IRS to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax laws. Representatives from elected official offices will be present some days to assist with 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications (PA-1000). Rotary-GP VITA will operate at five sites in Monroe County from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. now through April 15.

With the ice harvest reportedly accomplished, Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living historical farm, is next anticipating Maple Sugaring Day for volunteers.
