Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 4

The Lehighton and Palmerton boys and girls basketball teams ended their regular seasons on a positive note, picking up Colonial League wins on Tuesday.

Other winners included the Marian boys.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Lehighton

Blake Roberts scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Lehighton outlast Jim Thorpe, 55-53, in Colonial League action.

Joe Roth added 13 points, while Cole Dietz contributed 10 for the Indians, who will be competing in the league playoffs on Friday,

The Olympians, playing their season finale, received 17 points from both Brody Schrantz and Aaron Curran. Pierce Gothard also tallied 15 for Thorpe, which led by five points after the first quarter.

Northern Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton closed out its season with a 47-45 Colonial League comeback victory over visiting Northern Lehigh.

After trailing 29-21 at halftime, the Blue Bombers’ Logan Anthony connected for 10 of his game-high 17 points in the third quarter to help close the gap.

Corey Serfass tallied five of his 14 points in the final stanza as Palmerton ended the year on a good note.

The Bulldogs’ Connor Simms finished with a team-high 15 points, 12 of them coming in the first half. Coy Daubert added 11, while Kellen Bauer chipped in with 10.

NORTHERN LEHIGH

Shenandoah Valley-Marian

A big third quarter helped Marian pull away from Shenandoah Valley for a 71-38 Schuylkill League victory.

Dominic Catrone, Justin De La Cruz and Jacob De La Cruz all scored eight points during a 30-point third frame as the Colts turned a nine-point lead into a 30-point margin.

Rocco Griguoli finished with a game-high 16 points for the winners, while Justin De La Cruz collected 12 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.

Jacob De La Cruz also ended with 12 points, and Catrone chipped in with 10.

The Devils received a team-high 11 points from Jamuel Reyes.

Pottsville pulled out a 56-54 double overtime victory over host Panther Valley in both team’s regular-season finale.

Christian Alvarez had four of his game-high 17 points in the second OT to help the Tide pull out the win.

The winners, who have won nine of their last 10 games, also received 15 points from Letrel Montone.

Logan Fisher and Danny Wehr both had double-doubles to pace the Panthers. Fisher collected 10 points and a whopping 23 rebounds, while Wehr tallied 11 points and pulled down 16 boards. PV also received 14 points from Brady Jones and 13 from Connor Penberth.

POTTSVILLE

Williams Valley-Weatherly

Williams Valley raced to an early lead and cruised to a 68-45 Schuylkill League victory over host Weatherly.

Brady Shomper scored a game-high 17 points for the Vikings, who built a 22-point halftime advantage.

The winners, who avenged a 25-point loss to the Wreckers from earlier this season, also received 12 points from Evan Achenbach.

Niko Saldukas posted a team-high 16 points for Weatherly, while Ian McKeegan finished with 11.

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Lehighton ended its regular season with a convincing 46-28 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Indians’ Emma Repsher netted a season-high 25 points to help her team clinch a district playoff berth. Repsher posted 15 of her points in the first two quarters, as the Indians took a 30-13 halftime lead.

The winners also received eight points from Morgan Costenbader.

Brianna Snisky paced the Olympians with a team-high 11 points.

Northern Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton rebounded from an early deficit to pull out a 57-54 Colonial League overtime victory over rival Northern Lehigh.

Courtney Connell scored four of her 14 points in the extra period, including two on an inside post move to go up 55-54 with 20 seconds left in OT.

Ella Baumgardt netted 13 of her team-high 16 points in the first half for the Bombers, who trailed by nine after the opening quarter. The winners also received 14 from Mikayla Pengelly.

The Bulldogs’ Katelynn Barthold poured in a game-high 23 points, including eight in the initial frame to help the visitors get off to a good start. Tegan Simms also contributed 18, including a three with under a minute left in regulation that tied the game. Kylee Snyder chipped in with 10.

Morgan Orsulak finished with a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers, who trailed by just three at halftime. PV also received seven points from Lucy Kocha.

The Tide was paced by Jes Siminitus, who netted 13 points, and Jo Barnhart, who added 12.
