State police at Frackville
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Vincenzo E. Leech, 25, of New Ringgold, was cited for leaving the scene of a crash after he fled from a two-vehicle crash at 6:48 a.m. Jan. 28 on South Garfield Street in West Mahanoy Township.
Police said he was driving a 2009 Mercury Mariner northbound when it traveled into the oncoming lane and struck a 2014 Mazda driven by Nicole R. Heil, 38, of New Ringgold, coming to rest in the middle of the road with disabling damages. Police said the Mazda then struck a building. It was towed from the scene.
Neither driver, nor three passengers with Heil, children ages 8, 12 and 15, were injured.
• Makeda J. Brown, 35, of Tamaqua, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:57 a.m. Jan. 30 at the intersection of West Water and Fifth streets in Coaldale.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. They said the severity of her injuries is unknown.
Police said the crash happened when Jill A. Figner, 67, of Coaldale, driving a 2018 Honda north on Fifth Street, turned left onto West Water Street without proper clearance and the car was struck by a 2006 Acura driven by Brown. Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages and had to be towed from the scene.
Figner, who was uninjured, was cited for the incident.
• Edward A. Hornberger, 81, and Shirley A. Hornberger, 78, both of Ringtown, were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:49 a.m. Jan. 30 at the intersection of West Centre Street and Suffolk Road in Mahanoy Township.
Police said Shirley Hornberger was transported by personnel from the Frackville Community Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Bethlehem, and Edward Hornberger was transported by personnel from the Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. They said the severity of his injuries is unknown.
Police said the incident happened when Edward Hornberger was driving a 2020 Ford Escape southbound on Suffolk Road and made a turn onto West Centre Street without proper clearance. They said the Escape was struck by a 2020 Volvo driven by Shawn L. Stripe, 48, of Tamaqua, who was uninjured.
The Escape was towed from the scene while the Volvo had minor damages. They said Edward Hornberger was cited.
• Gary Della Monica, 30, of Scranton, was cited for harassment after police responded to a crash at 8:58 p.m. Jan. 30 on the Vulcan Hill Road, Mahanoy Township.
Police said Della Monica was cited after police were told by the victim, a 28-year-old woman from Scranton, that he followed her for 56 miles, making numerous phone calls and sending inappropriate text messages to her.
