Schuylkill County Court

The following sentences were handed down in Schuylkill County Court.

John Shutt Jr., 48, of Ashland, was sentenced by Schuylkill County Judge Christina E. Hale to 20 to 40 years on a variety of sex charges leveled by Ashland borough police for an arrest made on Nov. 13, 2023.

He was sentenced to 10 to 20 years on a charge of rape by forcible compulsion, and the same sentence on a second charge of rape by forcible compulsion, which is to be served concurrently.

On a charge of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, Shutt was sentenced to another 10-20 years to be served consecutively.

On a charge of incest of a minor, he was sentenced to 5 to 10 years to be served concurrently to the other sentences.

A child pornography charge drew a sentence of 5 to 10 years to be served concurrently.

And a charge of endangering the welfare of children drew a sentence of 18 to 35 months to be served concurrently.

Terrance Giddings, 46, of Mount Carmel, was sentenced by Judge Hale to 3 to 7 years in jail on a charge of persons not to possess drugs leveled by the state police at Schuylkill Haven for an offense on Sept. 2, 2024.

Giddings was also sentenced to 3 to 6 months on a charge of driving under the influence — drugs, and 4 to 12 months on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

He is obligated to pay $1,025 in fines, and another $2,760.

Allen Howell Jr., 50, of St. Clair, was sentenced to 18 to 42 months by Judge Hale on a charge of disruption of service made by state police at Schuylkill Haven on Dec. 5, 2023.

He faces the same sentence on charges of conspiracy — disruption of service, and theft by unlawful taking, each of which will be served concurrently.

Judge Hale also sentenced Howell to 30 days to 12 months on a charge of driving under the influence — alcohol made by state police at Schuylkill Haven.

Howell faces a sentence of 3 to 12 months on a charge of theft by unlawful taking made by Schuylkill Haven Borough police on June 27, 2023.

He drew a 45- to 90-day sentence from Judge Hale on a charge of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked leveled by Saint Clair Borough Police on Dec. 19, 2023.

And a sentence of six months to five years for a charge of driving under the influence — drugs made by state police at Schuylkill Haven on Aug. 2, 2023.
