Police say Gilbert man threatened to kill his wife
A Gilbert man has been charged with threatening to kill his wife during an argument in their home.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Cpl. Jonathan Hontz of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks, in the case against Thomas Matlock:
At around 9:26 p.m. Jan. 25, troopers responded to a home in the 500 block of Bottom Road, Polk Township, for a domestic dispute between Matlock, 52, and his wife.
During the investigation, Matlock had barricaded himself, his wife and a child within the residence, preventing police from making contact with Matlock’s wife. Matlock’s wife and the child managed to exit the residence and were interviewed by police on scene.
The woman said she had been shoved during an argument, and Matlock had threatened to kill her. She said Matlock had been consuming alcohol heavily since around 2 p.m.
Troopers Justin Magluilo and Robert Miller had then made contact with Matlock and instructed him to exit the residence and place his hands behind his back due to his aggressive nature.
Matlock refused to listen to commands and rushed Magluilo and Miller, shoving them and attempting to strike them, putting them in risk of injury. Magluilo and Miller then assisted Matlock to the porch, where he further resisted arrest.
Hontz then arrived on-scene and interviewed the child within the residence. The juvenile witness was visibly distraught and related that his mother and father had been arguing throughout the day, and said that when his mother returned home, Matlock began to argue with her again.
The child said that Matlock had made threats to kill his wife and then pushed her, causing her to fall onto a living room chair.
Hontz then interviewed Matlock’s wife in the house and confirmed the juvenile witness’ statement that she was pushed during the argument, causing her to fall down onto the chair, which caused the possibility of further injury to her broken ankle.
Matlock’s wife said that he had threatened to kill her, causing her to fear for her safety, and she was also distraught during the interview.
An attempt to interview Matlock was made, but due to his intoxicated state, he was unable to give a full interview but had maintained that he didn’t do anything.
Matlock was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Pocono for evaluation, and then transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility for processing.
Matlock faces charges on three counts each of simple assault and harassment; two counts of aggravated assault; and one count each of resisting arrest and terroristic threats
He is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility, with his request for bail denied, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Thursday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
