Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 3

The Pleasant Valley boys kept their postseason hopes alive with a victory over East Stroudsburg South on Monday.

The Bears need a win in their final regular season game on Wednesday to clinch a district playoff berth.

In other action, the Marian girls ended regular season play with a win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ES South-Pleasant Valley

The one-two punch of Zach Prator and JJ Moore helped Pleasant Valley gain a 67-46 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over visiting East Stroudsburg South.

Moore scored 21 of his 25 points in the first half as the Bears built a 20-point halftime lead. Prator added 13 of his game-high 28 during the first two frames to pull PV within one win of clinching a district playoff berth.

The winners also received 10 points from Sebastian Sacci.

Paxton Shemansky topped the Cavaliers with 12 points, all of them coming on three-pointers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Shenandoah Vy.

Marian ended the regular season on a good note, as the Fillies rolled to a 49-11 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.

Addy Marek posted nine of her game-high 13 points before intermission, as the Fillies took a 29-3 lead into the locker rooms.

The winners also received 12 points from Addy Fritz.

Morgan Labosky paced the Blue Devils with six points.

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

North Schuylkill ended its Schuylkill League season with a perfect record, as the Spartans used a solid second half to gain a 44-39 victory over Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders took a 17-15 lead into halftime, but the Spartans outscored the home team 29-22 the rest of the way.

Millie Black finished with a double-double for Tamaqua, scoring 10 points and collecting 14 rebounds. Lauren Ligenza just missed a double-double, adding eight points and 13 boards.

For the Spartans, Mya Conti tallied a game-high 16 points.

Pleasant Valley-ES South

Pleasant Valley led at halftime, but East Stroudsburg South finished strong to earn a 53-41 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

The Bears held an 18-16 advantage at the break on the strength of a 10-of-15 team showing at the free-throw line.

Johanna Zearfoss scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to help the Cavaliers pull out the win.

The winners also received 13 points from Alana Kershock, while PV’s Alexia Polazzo finished with a team-high 15.

Sage Smeltz’s 40-point performance powered Williams Valley to a 63-11 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Smeltz posted 16 points in the second quarter as the Vikings gained a 26-point lead by halftime.

The winners also received 15 points from Mallory Miller, while Kelly Reiner finished with a team-high seven for the Wreckers.

Tamaqua posted a 21-6 win over Panther Valley.

Adilynn O’Gurek led the Raiders with 15 points, while Smith had four to top PV.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

Weatherly cruised to a 25-9 victory over Schuylkill Haven.

The Wreckers’ Helena Williams led all scorers with 10 points, while Yeseniah Cruz added seven.

Sofia Randazzo had seven points to lead the Hurricanes.

8th Grade

Panther Valley-Tamaqua

Panther Valley and Tamaqua played to an 18-18 tie.

Breslin and Honshiko each scored nine points for the Panthers.

For the Raiders, Adilynn O’Gurek and Hailey Kunkel both finished with five points.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

Weatherly recorded a 32-19 victory over Schuylkill Haven.

The Wreckers’ Katie Knock scored a game-high 21 points, while Maci Kane added nine.

Abby Farrell topped the Hurricanes with six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

7th Grade

Panther Vy.-Tamaqua

Panther Valley edged Tamaqua, 30-27.

Mason McDonald had 10 points to lead the Panthers, while Cooper Lynn and Isaac Schoenberger each added six.

Tavin Makovec finished with nine points for the Raiders. Cain Conner chipped in with seven.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

Schuylkill Haven rolled to a 41-13 win over Weatherly.

The Hurricanes’ Noah Runkle scored a game-high 12 points, while Carter Minnick topped the Wreckers with nine.

8th Grade

Panther Vy.-Tamaqua

Panther Valley registered a 41-35 win over Tamaqua.

The Panthers’ Carson Jones led all scorers with 17 points, while Jayden Honshiko contributed 12.

John Kovatch had 10 points to lead the Raiders, while Cain Conner added nine.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

Schuylkill Haven defeated Weatherly, 41-23.

Jaxon McKeegan tallied 10 points for the Wreckers, while Wyatt Kokinda added seven.

Haven’s Landon Bayer scored a game-high 13 points.
