Pl. Valley adjusts school day for 25-26

Pleasant Valley students are looking at a slight change to their schedule times next school year.

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved new arrival and class start times for students for the 2025-2026 school year during their meeting on Jan. 23. Dismissal times were not changed.

Teachers’ schedules were also changed a little. The purpose of the changes was to give teachers more time for meetings.

“For this new change, (the schools) are emphasizing that their staff will be able come in five minutes earlier, have more collaboration time, have an opportunity to run IEP meetings, and have everything ready for their classrooms,” Superintendent James Konrad said in an interview after the meeting.

Konrad said professional and support staff were surveyed on the changes with about 65% of the staff responding to the survey. Of those who responded, 85% felt the change would be beneficial, he said.

At the high school, teachers will be expected to arrive by 6:55 a.m. and will be dismissed at 2:25 p.m. Middle School teachers will arrive at 7:05 a.m. and be dismissed at 2:35 p.m., intermediate teachers from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and elementary school teachers from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For the students, the following are the new arrival and class start times. No change to the dismissal times.

• PVHS — 7:15 a.m. (currently 7:05 a.m.) to 2:15 p.m. Classes will start at 7:30 a.m. (currently 7:20 a.m.);

• PVMS — 7:25 a.m. (currently 7:15 a.m.) to 2:30 p.m. Classes will start at 7:40 a.m. (currently 7:25 a.m.);

• PVIS — 8:50 a.m. (currently 8:45 a.m.) to 3:30 p.m. Classes will start at 9 a.m. (currently 8:55 a.m.), and;

• PVES — 9:05 a.m. (currently 9:01 a.m.) to 3:45 p.m. Classes will start at 9:15 a.m. (currently 9:10 a.m.).

The changes amount to a decrease of 10 minutes in the school day for high school and middle school students, and a five minute decrease for students in intermediate and elementary school.
