Carbon County appoints engineer

Carbon County has appointed a new county engineer to oversee projects.

Last week, the commissioners approved the appointment of Keystone Consulting Engineers of Kresgeville to serve as the engineer in 2025. Rates for the company’s service range from $61 to $221.50 per hour.

Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko said that the previous county engineer, Carbon Engineering, will finish any projects that it had been handling before the action.

“I know the first thing that taxpayers ask, when you make changes, ‘are we going to have to pay for all new engineering?’

“The commissioners have made this decision to obviously change engineering (but) whatever Carbon (Engineering) has on the books, we’re going to make sure they finish it so that the money you pay isn’t wasted.”

Carbon Engineering had served as the county engineer since the early 2000s.
