Polk Township supervisors

Polk Township supervisors covered many topics at their meeting on Monday:

• In December, the Polk Fire Company responded to 21 emergencies, completed 210 hours of training and participated in 183 hours of fundraising.

For the year 2024, the department responded to 232 emergencies, had 1,842 hours of training, 2,160 fundraising hours and 791 hours of emergency scenes.

• Ten trees close to the roadway will be removed on Dorshimer Road, and several trees on Burger Hollow Road.

• Secretary Rebecca Tippett as approved to attend a three-day training for continuing education for her certificate in sewage enforcement.

• Seven building permits and 15 certificates of use and occupancy were approved for the month of December.

• Supervisors discussed driveways in the township that need to be fixed to be in compliance. This will be looked into further.

• The Department of Environmental Protection will offer free radon tests to residents. A list of residents will be supplied to DEP to advise them of this.

• One bid of $1,850 was received and accepted for a 1999 GMC 8500 dump truck.

• The Veterans Memorial committee will be re-creating township blankets as a fundraiser.

Member Candy Burger said, “We want to re-create the blankets with the schools and other township information as it hasn’t been done for 25 years.”
