The Northern Lehigh girls and Marian boys basketball teams both recorded wins on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

Tegan Simms and Katelynn Barthold each had big games to power Northern Lehigh to a 60-32 win over Jim Thorpe in Colonial League action.

Simms hit five 3s and finished with 25 points while Barthold netted 21 for the Bulldogs, who have won three in a row.

Brooklyn Yuhas led the Olympians with 13 points.

N’umberland Christian-Weatherly

Ava Phillips scored a game-high 15 points to lead Northumberland Christian to a 29-16 non-league win over Weatherly.

Phillips scored eight points in the first quarter for the winners, who built a 12-7 lead.

Kelly Reiner’s 11 points paced the Wreckers.

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Pine Grove picked up its fifth straight win, topping Panther Valley 57-46 in Schuylkill League action.

Callee Leffler paced the Cardinals with 16 points, while Hollynn Sampson added 12.

Natalie Vermillion led the Panthers with 18 points, and broke the single season record for threes in the process. Vermillion, who hit six in the contest, now has 64 threes in a season, topping the previous mark of 60 held by Macey Markovich. Morgan Orsulak added 11 points.

PINE GROVE

Weathterly-Tri-Valley

A quick start helped Tri-Valley seize momentum en route to a 70-52 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Braeden Davis had 19 points for the Bulldogs, who led 18-9 after the first quarter. Trey Porter tallied 14 points and Matt Raulston added 12 for the winners.

Corbin Wagner hit four 3s and had a game-high 22 points for the Wreckers, while Dominick Kokinda scored 11.

WEATHERLY

Williams Valley-Marian

Marian turned back Williams Valley to claim a 59-48 Schuylkill League win.

Rocco Griguoli led the Colts with 16 points, while Dominic Catrone added 14 and Greg Tirpak scored 11.

Evan Achenbach scored a game-high 22 points for the Vikings, who trailed 44-26 after three quarters. Achenbach scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. Brady Shomper scored seven of his 13 in the final frame.

WILLIAMS VALLEY

The Jim Thorpe A team posted a 27-5 win over Northern Lehigh.

Snisky led the Olympians with 10 points, while Aponte added nine points.

Addison and Vivian each scored two points for the Bulldogs.

Northern Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

The Jim Thorpe B team picked up a 24-3 win over Northern Lehigh.

Decker and Hartman scored seven points for the Olympians.

Sophia had three points for the Bulldogs.

Weatherly-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill edged Weatherly, 32-31.

Payton Gawrylick and Haley Sisko each scored seven points for the Spartans.

Maci Kane led the Wreckers with 18 points. Katie Knock added eight points.

JR. HIGH

BOYS BASKETBALL

9th Grade

Hazleton Silver-Tamaqua

Hazleton Silver posted a 56-44 win over Tamaqua.

Hazleton’s Miguel Conis had a game-high 26 points while Luis Pimetel added 21.

Gavin Edmonds had 14 points to lead Tamaqua, while Deondre Marshall added 13 and Gavin Shannon chipped in with 10.

Mahanoy Area-Tamaqua

Mahanoy posted a 61-55 win over Tamaqua.

Gavin Edmonds had a game-high 23 points to lead Tamaqua, while Deondre Marshall added 12.

Cam Smith had 18 points for Mahanoy, while JD Kowalchick contributed 12.

8th Grade

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Pottsville edged out Panther Valley to win 49-41.

McFarland tallied a team-high 14 points for the Tide.

Corrigan Crampsie led the Panthers with 12 points while Mikey Demyanovich added nine.

N. Schuylkill-Weatherly

North Schuylkill defeated Weatherly in convincing fashion 44-22.

Capone led the Spartans with 10 points.

Wyatt Kokinda finished with a Wreckers’ team high six points.

7th Grade

Weatherly-N. Schuylkill

North Schuylkill won decisively over Weatherly 37-20.

Quick and Encarnacion each tallied nine points for the Spartans.

Vincent Garcia scored a team leading 7 points for the Wreckers and also received six from Carter Minnick.

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Pottsville took home a 42-32 victory over Panther Valley.

Chiccini led the Tide in scoring with nine points.

The Panthers received seven points each from Cooper Lynn, Noah Seifert and Mason McDonald.
