Senior Center

The Panther Valley Senior Center announced the menu for Feb. 3-7.

Monday: Breaded Pork, Root Vegetables, Brussels Sprouts, Applesauce or Italian Turkey Sandwich

Tuesday: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, Cookie or Harvest Chicken Salad

Wednesday: Pierogies, Salad, Orange or Chef Salad with Ham

Thursday: Chicken Kiev, Quinoa, Zucchini, Pears or Turkey Cheese Sandwich

Friday: Onion Soup, Veggie Burger, Sweet Potato Fries, Cantaloupe or Rachael Sandwich

The senior center also announced the following events.

Skeeball on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m.; Guest Bingo with Heritage Hill on Feb. 4 at 11 a.m.; Balloon Tennis on Feb. 5 at 11 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Feb. 6 at 11 a.m.; Game Day on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.

Sunshine Meeting on Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. followed by a Super Bowl Celebration at 11 a.m.; Birthday Bingo on Feb. 11 at 10:45 a.m.; Game Day on Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.; Po-Keeno on Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.; Valentine’s Party on Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Cards, Pool, Games, available daily from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. New members are welcome.

PV Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers met on Jan. 27 with 10 members and two guests present.

President Diane Gould opened the meeting. The invocation, “Only His Peace,” was read. One member is celebrating a birthday.

The group is planning a tricky tray auction on March 10. Bingo was played. The next meeting will be held Feb. 10, weather permitting, at 1 p.m. at the St. Ann Senior Apartments. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Panther Valley Library

The Panther Valley Public Library will once again offer tax prep assistance for seniors.

If you are 60-plus and qualify for the Rent/Property tax rebate, you can schedule an appointment to receive assistance with preparing the Federal Income Tax form 1040 and the Pa. Tax form. Appointments are required and are available on Feb. 21 and March 28 from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m.

You are asked to put all your tax information (income, interest, etc. plus all three property taxes) in a sealed envelope and drop it off at the library at your appointment time.

If you rent, please have your landlord fill out the appropriate paperwork. If you are new to the program, please provide a copy of your driver’s license or some form of ID. Your return will be mailed to you.

Call the library at 570-645-3780 for an appointment. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-11:45 a.m., and Thursday evening from 5-6:45 p.m.

Hometown Hero Banners

The Nesquehoning Veterans Banner program is open for 2025.

If you would like to purchase a new banner, applications are available. Deadline to purchase a new banner is Feb. 5, 2025.

Souper Bowl

Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 is hosting a Souper Bowl event on Feb. 8.

The event will be held in the VFW social hall from 9 a.m. until sold out. There will be a variety of soups available for purchase as cash and carry items.

Anyone wishing to donate soup for the fundraiser can do so by calling Lois at 570-249-0364 or Abbie at 570-460-3417. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 1.

In addition to soup, a Philadelphia Eagles Cube package is being raffled off after the soup sale. Tickets can be purchased at the VFW or by calling the aforementioned numbers.

All proceeds from both fundraisers will benefit phase 2 of the VFW Memorial Site project.
