State police at Hazleton - crashes
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Yesenia Hernandez, 47, of McAdoo, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 3:31 p.m. Dec. 16 on Interstate 81 in West Hazleton.
Police said she was driving a 2017 Hyundai Elantra southbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when the car lost traction, spun, traveled onto the right shoulder and struck a guide rail. The car was towed from the scene.
Hernandez was after the crash, police said.
• Three people had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 5:50 a.m. Dec. 23 on Route 424 in Hazle Township.
Police said Ana L. Batista, 45, of McAdoo, and Estefany Almonte Lora, 27, and Yunior Nunez Hilario, 25, both of Hazleton, were transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
They said the crash occurred when Batista, driving a 2016 Dodge Dart westbound, crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2013 Acura driven by Almonte. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Batista was cited, as was Almonte, who was driving without a license, according to police.
• Luis M. Feliz, 20, of McAdoo, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:43 p.m. Jan. 24 on Church Street in Banks Township.
Police said he was driving a 2019 Tesla northbound on Route 309 when he turned left onto Church Street and the car hit a fire hydrant on the right side of the road.
The Tesla had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
• A 58-year-old man from Weatherly is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a one-vehicle crash at 8:56 p.m. Nov. 3 on East Cherry Street in Banks Township.
Police said the man was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile while being under the influence of alcohol to such a degree that rendered him incapable of safely operating the vehicle.
Police did not provide details of the crash but said the victims in the incident are Banks Township and a 37-year-old woman from Tresckow.
