Churches planning Good Friday event in park

A group of Palmerton area churches would like to use the borough park to host a religious event.

Keith House, pastor of Living Hope Lighthouse Church, located at 705 Third St., explained the vision to borough council on Thursday.

House said Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches is looking to hold an event on Good Friday in the borough park.

House said it would be the Stations of the Cross, with nine different stations.

Palmerton CACPAC is made up of nine local churches in the borough.

Councilman Andrew Hollywood told House he didn’t foresee any reason why the event couldn’t be held.

House said he will discuss the matter with CACPAC at its meeting next month, now that it had the blessing of council.

“We want to be a blessing to the community,” House said. “We want to be a part of the community.”

The Stations of the Cross is a meditative prayer that depicts the final steps of Jesus’ life, from his condemnation to death to his resurrection.

It’s also known as the Way of the Cross.

The Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches is a combined ministry of the Palmerton area churches working together to care for those in need.
