State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following incidents:
• A 24-year-old man from Effort is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controller substance after police made a traffic stop at 12:57 a.m. Jan. 18.
He was stopped in a 2004 Toyota for traffic violations on Leisure Lane, Polk Township.
• A 44-year-old man from Brodheadsville is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance after police made a traffic stop at 12:45 a.m. Jan. 6.
He was stopped in a 2018 Audi for traffic violations on the Neola Church Road, Jackson Township, after which police found him to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
• Samantha Clark, 24, of Effort, was cited for harassment by physical contact after police were called to a domestic incident at 5:50 p.m. Jan. 19 on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said a 59-year-old woman from Effort was thrown to the ground by Clark.
• Police are investigating a theft by disposition of funds case in which the victim is Beverly Aprill, 65, of Brodheadsville.
They said she came to their barracks at 4:27 p.m. Jan. 2 to report an identity theft case, telling police she was notified by text message that she had a Zelle payment pending for $1,870.98.
She said she responded to the text and then received a phone call from an unknown number, with the caller asking her for PNC Bank information and instructing her to make a Western Union payment for $1,700 to an unknown account in Florida.
The woman told police she complied with the instructions.
• Police said a 58-year-old woman from Stroudsburg was targeted in a theft/fraud/forgery incident they are investigating.
They were dispatched to a property on Hemlock Drive, Jackson Township, at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 16, where she told them she was scammed out of $2,170 by someone claiming to be from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman told police she sent gift cards and Bitcoin to the caller.
• A 15-year-old boy from Albrightsville was cited for harassment by physical contact after police were called to an incident at 7:51 p.m. Jan. 17 on Larch Lane, Penn Forest Township.
The victim was a 55-year-old from North Carolina, police said.
• A 57-year-old man from Stroudsburg is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after police responded to an incident at 1:40 a.m. Dec. 19 at the intersection of Manor Drive and Middle Easton Belmont Pike, Hamilton Township.
Police said the man was observed sleeping and slumped over the steering wheel of his 2010 Pontiac.
• A 25-year-old man from Jim Thorpe was cited for harassment by physical contact after police responded to an incident at 4:01 p.m. Jan. 16 on Unionville Road, Penn Forest Township.
Police said a 21-year-old woman from Jim Thorpe told police the man struck her after she asked him if he was going to help pay their bills.
