Tamaqua property owners who do not keep their sidewalks clear of snow and ice are being cited.
“The code officers were out today giving out quality of life tickets” to those whose sidewalks weren’t cleaned, borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt told council at its Tuesday meeting.
Tamaqua property owners must maintain a 3-foot wide path on their sidewalks that is clear of snow and ice. It must be cleared within 24 hours after a storm ends.
Those who fail to do so face a $25 fine for their first offense, and higher fines for subsequent offenses.
They are also asked to refrain from throwing snow and ice onto streets or piling it at intersections, near fire hydrants or on storm drains.
People may also be fined if they’re caught throwing snow onto streets.
