January 24, 1989 — A balanced scoring attack allows Northwestern to hold off rival Northern Lehigh for a 61-51 Centennial League victory. Four Tigers reach double-digit scoring, with Mike Woodring leading the way with 15 points. The winners, coached by John Schmoyer, use a late 8-2 run to gain an eight-point advantage and then later add another 8-2 spurt to seal the win. Mark Lazarus collects 14 points for Northwestern, while Steve Loch contributes 13 points and eight rebounds. Jason Mengel adds 10 points, and Tony Fristick nearly posts a double-double with eight points and 10 boards. The Bulldogs receive a game-high 16 points from Brian Akelaitis.
