A fast-moving fire destroyed a home Friday, Jan. 24 in the East side of Jim Thorpe.
The first call came in a little after 1 p.m. for a fire at 402 South St. The building was fully engulfed when the first fire crews arrived.
No people were hurt, owner Theresa Corripio said.
“All humans are safe and out of the home,” Corripio posted on Facebook. “I have lost my dog, Luna, and my 4 cats. I was only able to get one of my cats out of the house.”
A dozen people from four apartments were displaced.
“We don’t know yet what caused the fire,” Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Vincent Yaich said. “We called in the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal here to investigate.’
Crews from Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Nesquehoning, Weatherly, Mahoning Valley, Lansford and Franklin Township fire departments responded, along with the Lehighton Ambulance. Penn Forest and Franklin fire police helped direct traffic.
As of Friday evening, South Street between Fourth and Sixth streets remained closed to traffic.
