Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 22

The Northwestern boys rolled to their eighth straight victory on Wednesday, while the Panther Valley girls also gained a commanding win.

In wrestling, Tamaqua and Panther Valley split a boys-girls doubleheader.

Aiden Schlier also reached a milestone victory for the Blue Raiders in their win over the Panthers.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Northern Lehigh

Six Northwestern players scored in double figures as the Tigers rolled to a 99-63 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Connor Fitch topped Northwestern with 21 points, while Shane Marth had 14 and Gavin Nelson added 13.

The Tigers, who won their eighth straight game, also received 11 points from both Eli Zimmerman and Brady Krimmel. Mason Bollinger chipped in with 10.

Northern Lehigh, which trailed by just six after the first quarter, were paced by Kellen Bauer’s game-high 30 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Panther Valley-Jim Thorpe

Natalie Vermillion poured in a team-high 15 points to help Panther Valley pull away from Jim Thorpe for a 50-28 Schuylkill League victory.

Vermillion and Morgan Orsulak both scored six points in the second quarter as the Panthers used a 16-3 period to break open what was a two-point game after the first quarter.

Orsulak finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while the Olympians’ Brianna Snisky tallied a game-high 19 points.

Tamaqua registered seven falls and two technical falls in their 58-6 rout of winless Panther Valley.

Posting pins for the Blue Raiders were Jacob Hehn (189), William Behun (215), Levi Kunkel (121), Aiden Schlier (127), Chase Zeigenfuss (145), Mason MacMillan (152) and Jonathan Knepper (160).

The victory was the 100th of Schlier’s career.

Panther Valley defeated Tamaqua 39-12 in a match where there were only three bouts wrestled.

Alisa Williams registered a pin for the Panthers at 190, while Kaitlyn Rivera had a fall for the Blue Raiders at 130.

PV’s other victory on the mat was a 16-14 decision by Mayrin Vazquez-Frias at 124.

The Panthers’ Cooper Lynn led all scorers with 13 points, while Isaac Schoenberger added seven.

Minnick and Goicio both had eight points for the Wreckers.

Sch. Haven-Panther Valley

Schuylkill Haven posted a 30-16 victory over Panther Valley.

The Hurricanes’ Noah Ronkle led all scorers with 14 points.

Cooper Lynn and Dennis Williams each had four points for PV.

8th GRADE

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Four players scored in double figures, as Panther Valley knocked off Weatherly 46-36.

Carson Jones paced the Panthers with 13 points, while Corigan Crampsie, Jayden Honshiko and Isa Gjoca all finished with 10.

Wyatt Kokinda had 11 points to lead the Wreckers.

Sch. Haven-Panther Valley

Schuylkill Haven cruised to a 38-16 win over Panther Valley.

The Hurricanes’ Noah Ronkle posted a game-high 10 points, while Jayden Honshiko had nine for the Panthers.

Weatherly rolled to a 41-20 win over Panther Valley.

The Wreckers’ Katie Krock netted a game-high 19 points, while Sophia Durham added eight.

Schuylkill Haven scored a 22-18 victory over Panther Valley.

The Panthers’ Breslin led all scorers with 14 points.

Weatherly defeated Panther Valley 32-3.

The Wreckers’ Shayna Pugh scored a game-high 12 points.

Panther Valley defeated Schuylkill Haven 10-2.

The Panthers’ Horshiko and Gomez each scored four points.
