JTASD approves $27K for competition

Jim Thorpe’s FBLA chapter is also gearing up for the state conference.

Last week, the school board approved a total cost of $27,763.40 related to the event.

“We budget for the student registration fees as well as the cost of sending advisers and chaperones,” Superintendent Robert Presley said.

Students raise funds for the cost of lodging and meals.

“This year, we had 183 members, with 71% qualifying for the state competition,” Tonia Thompson, Jim Thorpe FBLA adviser said. “We also logged over 3,600 hours of community service since March 1.”

Thompson said 89 high school and 20 middle school students will be attending the state conference.

“Some students couldn’t cover the costs of lodging and food or had prior commitments,” she said.

The event, Presley said, serves as a significant opportunity for students to showcase their skills and gain leadership experience

“This program continues to expand, thanks to the hard work of our educators and the enthusiasm of our students.”
