Ecumenical service
Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, in partnership with Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will be holding the annual Week of Christian Unity prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Representatives from PVEN and member churches will be participating. There is no snow date.
Scripture readings, sacred music and a sermon by the Rev. Bob Simon, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace, will be included in the service.
The theme for this year’s service is, ”Do You Believe?”
Mission meal
The West End Mission meal at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be served at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
They are held weekly on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Tax/rent rebates
State Rep. Jack Rader reminds residents that the state’s 2024 Property/Rent Rebate Program is now open to eligible Pennsylvanians to begin claiming rebates on property taxes or rent paid last year.
Income limits increased to $46,520 this year for both homeowners and renters.

Open pantry
The Supplemental Food Resource Center Food Pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Those wanting to donate to the pantry are asked to bring canned vegetables.
Pray the Rosary
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church invites folks to pray the rosary every Saturday at 3:20 p.m. before the 4 p.m. Mass and Sunday at 7:20 a.m. before the 8 a.m. Mass.
Open house set
For Roman Catholic families with children of school age, the Notre Dame schools in East Stroudsburg have announced open house schedules, including the Notre Dame Jr/ Sr. High School from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, and the Notre Dame Elementary School.
A snow date, if needed, is set for Feb. 2.
Pot luck meal
Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, will hold a combined service from 10-11:15 a.m. Sunday. It will be followed by a potluck meal from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
After the meal the church’s annual business meeting will take place.
YAM (Young Adults Ministry) will be held from 7-9 p.m.
Community supper
The monthly Sunday Supper is held by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on the second and fourth Sundays (Jan. 26) of the month unless stated otherwise.
Bids to be opened
Polk Township has accepted sealed bids for the sale of a used 1999 GMC. Received bids will be opened and tentatively awarded at the regular supervisors meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.
Church volleyball
Planning has begun for the church coed volleyball league 2025, ages 17 through 97, according to Effort UMC.
Games are Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7 and 8:15 p.m. mid-May through mid-August. There are nine teams representing six local churches that have been playing for approximately 30 years. If anyone would like to play, contact Paul DeBarry at pdaz@ptd.net or 717-414-6165.
Legion meeting
The Sons of the American Legion are set to meet from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Legion Post home in Gilbert.
Polk Parks & Rec
The first meeting of the year for Polk Township’s Parks & Recreation Committee meeting is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 30.
Stromboli sale
The Youth Missions team at Effort UMC is taking orders for strombolis, including broccoli and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, and cheesesteak. Orders and payment must be placed by Jan. 31. The sale is a benefit for its missions trip to Middletown, Ohio.

Youth appreciation
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate its youth volunteers between 6-8 p.m. Jan. 31. Sign-ups are due by Jan. 29.
SCRIP orders due
The congregational family of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, are reminded that SCRIP orders are due by Feb. 2.
Bald Eagle sighting
The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced an eagle watch field trip for Feb. 7 to the upper Delaware River in search of the bald eagle.
Once a rare sight, many wintering and resident eagles now inhabit this region and the probability for sightings is high.
Participants should be at the EE Center at 8:30 a.m. and are slated to return 5 p.m. For cost per person that includes bus transportation, call 570-629-3061. Participants should pack a lunch and binoculars and dress for the weather. Stops will be made for coffee and snacks. Preregistration and payment required one week in advance. Seating is limited. Refunds will be given only if notification is made at least one week in advance.
SFRC open
The Supplemental Food Resource Center of Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 8. Currently, the SFRC is asking for donations of canned goods.
Full moon walk
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting a Full Moon Walk at Kettle Creek from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 11.
It is an opportunity for whole families to take a walk under the light of a full moon on a clear winter night.
Participants are asked to dress for the weather and possibly snow-covered trails. Hot chocolate will be served at the end of the walk.
There is a cost per person, payable by cash or check.
