Marian hosts annual polar plunge at MC Lake

Marian Catholic High School is sponsoring its 12th annual polar plunge into the icy waters of Mauch Chunk Lake Park on Saturday to raise money for the school in Hometown.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the beach area of the lake, and the first wave of plungers enter the water at noon.

This year, many of Marian Catholic’s students, as well as faculty, staff and parents, will take the plunge.

In the past, participants have come from 15 Pennsylvania counties (Carbon, Columbia, Delaware, Lehigh, Lancaster, Luzerne, Monroe, York, Schuylkill, Northampton, Lackawanna, Berks, Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia) and five other states (New Jersey, New York, Delaware, North Carolina and Georgia).

In 2024, a record 85 people took the plunge.

Those who register as a plunger or a stay-dry chicken are eligible for a T-shirt.

A prize for best costume is provided by Jim Thorpe House of Jerky.
