Franklin Township Fire Company orders new pumper
Franklin Township Fire Company hopes to have a new addition to its fleet come this time next year.
Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl informed the township’s board of supervisors on Tuesday that last week the fire company had ordered a new pumper.
“We’re still looking forward to your continued support, (your) yearly donation,” Diehl told supervisors.
Diehl added the cost of the pumper is expected to be $1.31 million.
He said the department anticipates its arrival by winter of 2026.
Diehl said Rosenbauer is the manufacturer of the pumper that’s being ordered.
He said the department has several different accounts it pulls money from, namely a money market (savings) account.
“There’s different financing options we’re going to pursue,” Diehl said. “We’ll pay the chassis when it’s done, that’s like $500,000 right there.”
Board Chairman Fred Kemmerer Jr. noted that a portion of funds raised from all the events the fire company holds goes toward the truck eventually.
“So whenever you see the township fire company looking for donations or doing a fundraiser, just know that the things that they do come at a huge cost,” said Kemmerer, who cited the $1.31 million price tag for the new pumper.
“And if we don’t support them when they have fundraisers, or those things out there, that would never happen,” he said. “So we all support those events, so something that comes from the fire company it’s for a good cause.”
Supervisor Leroy Kemmerer Jr. offered some heady praise for the fire department.
“I might by biased, but I think we have the best fire company around,” he said.
After the meeting, Diehl said the department currently has four vehicles in its fleet.
He said it has a 2015 brush truck, 2013 tanker, 2008 rescue pumper and a 1990 pumper.
Diehl said once the department receives its new pumper, it would essentially replace the 1990 pumper.
